Speaking at the National Defense Committee, the Chief of Staff of the Army of the Academy of Sciences of the Academy of Sciences stressed the importance of dramatic changes in the army and noted that it is now planned to re -arry mortar units with drones. "The army has created a new military structure that will replace 60 mm and 81mm mortar batteries with drones," the publication reads.

It is reported that a plan for reorganization of mortar units, known as Dronebot, has already been drawn up and is aimed at facilitating units that use weapons up to 10 km. According to the headquarters, the effective range of these mortars is about 2-3 km, but the weight is about 20 kg for 60 mm and more than 40 kg for 81 mm. "Instead of infantry units operating with mortars, percussion drones can make accurate blows over long distances," said Chief of Staff.

Representatives of the South Korean Ministry of Defense, as an advantage of drones, note the ease of use, relatively smaller number of personnel for the control and transportation of drones and higher accuracy. Among other things, the plan includes points such as the creation of special units of space intelligence, HRs and cyber divisions. The South Korean Army mainly uses KMS-114 mortars.
