The President held a meeting on compensation to Ukraine damage caused by Russian aggression

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a meeting on compensation to Ukraine's damage caused by the armed aggression of the Russian Federation. He noted that the issue of compensation for the losses caused by the Russian invasion is an important element of responsibility that the aggressor state should bear.

In order to create and implement the compensation mechanism, the President formed a special working group under the chairmanship of Presidential Office Andriy Yermak, which included representatives of the Cabinet of Ministers and leading Ukrainian and foreign international lawyers. The participants of the meeting discussed the course of the negotiation process on the forced seizure of the assets of the Russian Federation in favor of our country and coordinated steps in this direction.

In particular, work is underway to create a special compensation commission by concluding a multilateral international treaty with partners of Ukraine. This commission will be able to consider claims for damages caused by war.

An important step to ensure the international legal foundation of this mechanism was the adoption of the Council of Europe by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe on June 22 this year, which states that the Council of Europe will promote and ensure the introduction . Similar work is done in the OSCE, European Parliament, UN and other organizations.
