Three EU countries spoke against the purchase of ammunition to Ukraine at the expense of the assets of the Russian Federation - the media

The idea of freezing Russian assets will come closer to the EU leadership summit, which is scheduled for the next week. Some European Union member states do not support the plan of the head of the European Commission Ursula von der Lien on the use of profit from frozen assets of the Russian Federation to purchase weapons for Ukraine. About it reports Politico.

According to the publication, this situation is observed in the light of rumors that the proposal for freezing of assets will be presented closer to the next week, when the summit of EU leaders should take place. Meanwhile, one of the European officials on the conditions of anonymity reported that Luxembourg, Hungary and Malta have stated doubts about the expediency of using profit from frozen Russian assets to purchase ammunition for the Ukrainian army.

They argue that von Der Lien's intention to use money to purchase scarce weapons for Ukraine has led to a complication of negotiations, as it became known at one time about reaching consent that they needed to be reinstated. It should be noted that the urgency of the issue of confiscation of assets of the Russian Federation in favor of Ukraine is increasing due to the lack of new assistance from the United States.

In general, since the beginning of the Russian full -scale invasion, Western countries have frozen about $ 300 billion in Russian assets. However, the Member States of the Great Seven have been debating for more than a year regarding the possibility of confiscation of assets of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation, which were frozen during Russia's war against Ukraine, without undermining the world financial system.
