The Russian Federation intends to keep a tactical nuclear weapon in Belarus on a permanent basis - ISW
Thus, the Russian department stated that the weapon agreement has no specific time frames and Russia will return weapons only if certain conditions are fulfilled by the US and NATO. Requirements include the output of US nuclear weapons to the US and dismantle nuclear infrastructure in Europe. This statement and unjustified requirements indicate Russia's intention long -term to place tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus to strengthen control of the country, the ISW analysts say.
At the same time, experts believe that this deployment has no significant impact on fighting in Ukraine. We will remind, on June 19, the representative of the President in the Verkhovna Rada Fedor Venislavsky stated that Ukraine has no evidence that Russia has already placed nuclear weapons in Belarus. In addition, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation stated on June 19 that there was an opportunity to return nuclear weapons from Belarus to Russia.
