The Russian company in the field of cybersecurity of Angara Security has reported a growing threat from fraudsters who use the votes of real people to lure money from their relatives and friends. According to Angara Security, the attackers place ads on social networks, where the Russians are offered to share their voices for a certain reward. In 2021, the number of such ads was 1200, and last year 7000. They collect samples of votes under any reasonable reason, for example, to teach a generative model of artificial intelligence.

In fact, criminals use samples of voices of trusting Russian citizens to extort money from their friends and relatives, because in addition to "voice" criminals also collect personal data of people who have agreed to share their voices. Fraudsters with the help of AI and the obtained audio files create dipphers when any voice reads any text, such as a request to borrow money.

Technology also enables banks, as attackers can turn to a financial institution on behalf of a particular person, get verification and withdraw money from her account, while she will not suspect anything. Some Russian experts have said that vote samples can be collected without the knowledge of people.
