Lithuania urged Georgia to join EU sanctions against Russia - the media

Lithuanian leader Gitanas Nauseda said Lithuania is in favor of the process of European integration of Georgia with Ukraine and Moldova. Lithuania President Hitanas Nauseda believes that Georgia is important to synchronize the geopolitical course with foreign policy priorities of the European Union and consistent support of sanction policy against Russia.

Nausseda stated this on September 27 during a meeting with Georgia President Salome Zurabishvili, who arrived in Lithuania with an official visit, Alkas reports. The Lithuanian President has stated that Georgia has acquired the status of a candidate country in the EU, it is necessary to demonstrate progress in carrying out reforms and implementation of EU recommendations, especially in matters of political depolarization of society, judicial reform, deoligoryization and freedom of the media.

"Georgian society supports the European future of the country. I hope that your country will be accompanied by pro -Western geopolitical decisions and determination to seek European and Euro -Atlantic integration," Gitanas Nauseda said. According to journalists, he urged Georgia not to process the historical opportunity to obtain the status of a candidate country in the EU. Nauseda also stated that Lithuania is in favor of the process of European integration of Georgia with Ukraine and Moldova.

Official authorities in Georgia reports that all the sanctions of the West against the Russian Federation adhered to. However, Georgia herself refused to impose sanctions against the Russian Federation, as it could exacerbate relations between the two countries.
