"Cannot be flooded": what happens if the Russian Federation destroys the capital hydroelectric power station - expert

Hydrologist Viktor Vyshnevsky stated that the Kiev reservoir has the same area as Kiev itself, it is about 900 square kilometers. Even if you can break such a volume of water, it will still not be enough for flooding. If the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation can destroy the dams of the Kiev and Kaniv hydroelectric power plants, then the capital will not flood the capital. This was told by hydrologist and geographer Viktor Vyshnevsky on the air of "Ukrainian Radio".

According to him, most of Kiev is located at altitudes 140-150 meters. But the Kiev reservoir reaches only 103 meters. "Therefore, it is unrealistic, because it cannot be something below, for example, the ocean, to flood something at a height, the same Tibet," the expert explained. He noted that the Kiev reservoir has the same area as Kiev itself, it is about 900 square kilometers. Even if you can break such a volume of water, it will still not be enough for flooding.

"Of course, the water will move down, and the calculations of possible flooding were performed, but also in the theoretical aspect, when, for example, a hole of a width, for example, 100 or 200, 300 meters will be formed instead of a hydroelectric unit," he said. According to Vyshnevsky, if suddenly a hole is formed 100 meters, then, according to the calculations, Kiev will not actually flood. Except for only a small area that tends to the Dnieper itself.

"In particular, it is about the lower gardens," the hydrologist added. The expert stated that the Kiev hydroelectric power station is quite strong, its turbines are located not in the open room, but deep underground. And even the rocket stroke is virtually impossible to destroy them. But the Kaniv hydroelectric power plant is even a little more powerful than Kiev. It is also newer. Vyshnevsky said that 24 hydraulic units were installed at the Kaniv hydroelectric power station, while at Kyiv - 20.
