NATO countries must prepare for a long war in Ukraine - Stoltenberg

The Alliance Secretary General expressed confidence that after the war, Ukraine will receive security guarantees and become a member of NATO. The Secretary General of the North Atlantic Alliance Jens Stoltenberg in an interview with a German media group Funke said that NATO countries should prepare for a long war in Ukraine. According to him, despite the fact that everyone wants the rapid establishment of peace, the war will stop after Russia has removed troops.

This was reported on September 17 by Deutsche Welle journalists. Secretary-General said that most armed conflicts are longer than expected at first, so the Alliance should be prepared for a long Russian-Ukrainian war. He also added that if Ukraine ceases to fight at this stage, then the end of its existence will come. "We are all striving for rapid peace. At the same time, we have to realize: if President Vladimir Zelensky and Ukrainians stop fighting, their country ceases to exist.

If President Putin and Russia are composing weapons, we will have peace," Stoltenberg said. Secretary General noted that Ukraine will undoubtedly become a member of the Alliance, since after the war, the country will have to receive security guarantees to prevent the possibility of re -aggression by the Russian Federation. On the other hand, the armistice should not give Russia time to rest, and the Alliance should not allow Moscow to threaten security in Europe again.

"A peace agreement should not serve Russia for Russia so that it will be re-attacked. We can no longer allow Russia to jeopardize security in Europe. There is no doubt that Ukraine will eventually be in NATO," the Secretary General emphasized. Recall that on August 30, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg stated that Ukrainian defenders exceeded all expectations when it comes to the Armed Forces.
