Plans for the installation on the surface ships of the TOR-M2KM SPRs indicate that the Command of the Navy of Russia is seriously concerned about the problem of protection of the fleet not only from attacks of anti-ship missiles, but also from the strikes of armed unmanned aircraft (UAV). This is especially true of surface ships that do not have sufficient air defense equipment and act outside the cover from the blows from the air of the main forces of the fleet or operative-tactical group.

According to official information, the preparation for the TOR-M2KM tests is actively conducted. According to the results of the trials, the decision to accept the system will be adopted, and it is expected that the next year the supply of the maritime version of the air defense system for the Navy of Russia will begin. It is also reported that systems will be placed on both ships and naval bases.

Earlier, the TOR-M2KM SAM is already recommended for use to create air defense of the most important naval objects and strengthen the air defense of the fleet ships. This decision was made by a special commission appointed Commander -in -Chief of the Navy. Back in 2015-2016, the Autonomous Battle Module "Thor-M2KM" was installed on the deck of the managed rocket frigate of the project 11356 "Admiral Grigorovich". Then the trials were in the open sea at the speed of the ship of 8 knots.

The SAC has allegedly successfully intercepted two air targets, including high -speed air attacks and a harpoon anti -ship. The new scheme of the Thor-M2KM maritime system contains an antenna management system on a stabilized platform located on a deck or superstructure of a ship. In the arson space there will be a combat post and unified vertical launchers for controlled anti -aircraft missiles (ZUR). This system can be installed on surface ships of 300 tons or more.
