Larger than a three -storey building: Ukrainian polarists "attacked" a humpback whale

To spread: While the animal was floating near a boat of experts, it was possible to measure its size and take a picture of a tail float - its imprint is unique. With its help, the whale can identify. Scientists of the National Antarctic Scientific Center during the maritime departure saw a humpback whale and decided to carry out its research - to measure its size with a drone, to make photo identification and to take samples of skin and fat.

At this time, the animal became interested in the boat and began to play with the polarists. The corresponding video scholars were posted on the Instagram page. The polarists said that during the whale research, he sailed around and under the boat for 15 minutes. The humpback fountains, rounded his back, showed his tail, and even turned upside down and began to clap with breast fins. Experts stressed that such behavior can be rarely seen.

"True, he lightly touched the boat with one swimmer with polarists, which he was a little rustle. But after that he sailed politely," they added. According to scientists, usually humpback whales do not pose a threat to people in boats, as they behave carefully and not aggressively. If the animal's interest becomes obsessive and its actions are dangerous, then the polarists stop observation and go away so as not to affect the engine.

Experts noted that the humpback whale is twice as long as their boat. According to the video, they managed to determine that its length is 9. 6 meters. It is still a young animal, the size of adults is 13-15 meters. During the meeting, scientists managed to take a picture of the tail fin of a giant - the drawing on it is unique, as a fingerprint in humans. After the whale will be introduced into the international identification base and at the next meeting it will be possible to notice its changes.

"Through such research, scientists receive valuable information about the success of the reproduction of the largest animals on the planet, the presence of a forage base, their migration, etc. ," scientists summed up. We will remind that in January Ukrainian polarists showed a bird "baby boom" near the station "Academician Vernadsky". Then on the island, where Vernadsky is located, four martyniv chicks grew up and was expected to be replenished in two more couples.
