This was reported on August 12 at Defense Blog. The C-500 "Prometheus" system is a road-mobile system built on the base-69096 chassis with a 10 × 10 transportation and launching installations. It is expected that the C-500 will replace the outdated missile defense system A-135, which defended Moscow and its surroundings. Also, the C-500 system will be a complement to the already existing C-400 Triumph system. The versatility of the C-500 is one of its key features.
Like many Russian high -quality air defense systems, the system can be set up to start different missiles, which allows it to cope with different threats at different ranges and heights. This ability makes it a formidable asset in the Russian air defense system.
According to the developers, the C-500 is able to successfully eliminate both aerodynamic and ballistic goals: among them-medium-range missiles, intercontinental ballistic missiles, hypersonic winged missiles, low-orbiting military satellites, percussion and strategic aviation. According to the creators of the complex, the radar installation of the SAM can detect targets at distances up to 800 km, the radius of their lesion reaches 600 km, and the height - up to 250 km.
This SAM is allegedly possessed by the latter, sixth generation radio, which will be able to completely suppress the electronic equipment of the goals. The development of the C-500 began in 2009, but the program collided with delays and did not reach the initial goals for mass production, which was expected until 2012.
