Initially, the Russian Federation wanted to have more than 600 such "areas", but due to budget restrictions, the target is currently 360 satellites. But then their number should be increased to a minimum of 1200. In total, the Kremlin wants to produce about 250 different satellites a year to reach a target of 2600 orbital objects. However, they currently produce about 15 satellites with the ability to bring this number to 40 per year.
Pavel Luzin, Space Expert at the Center for European Policy Analysis, says that the goal of Roscosmos is unreal. "All serious satellites that Russia launched since 2022 were made with Western electronics. It was purchased no later than the mid-2010s, until the first sanctions," Luzin explained.
Therefore, he believes that the absolute dependence of the Russian Federation on the west in the construction of satellites will not allow Moscow to start producing 250 high quality products a year in a few years. Luzin is convinced that the Russian Federation can find some components in the world market, but this will be enough for the production of several satellites, but not exactly for large production production. The publication also turned to Denis Banchenko, a former Roscosmos employee.
