Close the sky above the capital: Politico told which air defense systems protect Kiev

According to journalists, German Near Radius, American Aviengers and MIM-23 Hawks, Norwegian Nasams, German Iris-T SLM, Patriot Pac-3 from the USA and Franco-Italian Eurosam Samp/T. At the beginning of the full-scale war, the Armed Forces of Ukraine actively used old Soviet medium-range air defense systems, such as C-300 and M1 Beech, to protect Kiev from hostile attacks. The problem was that the missiles for these systems had previously been delivered from Russia. About it reports Politico.

Nowadays, not only old Soviet systems, but also modern foreign technologies are involved in the Ukrainian sky. Yes, the Gearad near Germany and Avandegery radius systems from the United States carry out reliable protection not only from missiles but also from drones. The average radius of action in Kiev is used by American MIM-23 Hawks, Norwegian Nasams and German Iris-T SLM. As for the long-range installations, the city uses American Patriot Pac-3 and Franco-Italian Eurosam Samp/T.

The Ukrainian military has shown that they are able to integrate Western weapons into the Soviet air defense system. However, in Kiev it is expected that they will receive even more installations to protect the sky not only over the capital, but also over the country as a whole, the media writes. The strengthening of Kyiv's air defense has led to the fact that its inhabitants began to feel more safe.

Moreover, Ukrainians from other cities are now moving to the capital, where the sky protection system is weaker. As a result, in Kiev and the region, according to the UN, about 600,000 displaced persons from other parts of the country are currently living. It should be reminded that in order to strengthen Ukrainian air defense (air defense) during the winter, additional NASAMS systems were transferred to the partners.
