Russia arranges famine in Ukraine: Putin is waiting for a new sentence in the Hague - the media

Western lawyers and human rights activists found that Moscow deliberately created the conditions for famine in Ukraine in three stages. The invaders bombed shops, humanitarian corridors and energy infrastructure. Prosecutors and human rights activists are preparing a dossier about Russia's war in Ukraine, in particular about creating conditions for famine during a full -scale war. About it writes the British newspaper The Guardian.

The materials collected want to be directed to the International Criminal Court (ISS). Ukrainian prosecutors want to document cases where the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation used famine as a weapon of war. This will make new accusations to Russian President Vladimir Putin. The senior lawyer of Global Rights Compliment Yusuf Khan said that the Russian Federation had used famine in Ukraine in three stages.

It all started with the beginning of the invasion and lock of food supply chains, the specialist added. As an example, lawyers give the death of 20 civilians in Chernihiv on the morning of March 16, 2022. On that day, the fragile bombs of the Russian troops exploded near the supermarket, where Ukrainians stood in line for bread. Another example is the siege of Mariupol. The food was not delivered to the city at all, and corridors with humanitarian aid were blocked or broken.

All this complicated or made it impossible for civilians. From the beginning of the Great War, Nikolaev remained without drinking water, as the Russian troops seized the pumping station that provided it. The second phase of use of famine as weapons, according to Khan is the destruction of objects necessary for the survival of the civilian population. This includes the destruction of food, water and energy sources in Ukraine.

"If objects, such as the destruction of energy infrastructure in winter are destroyed, are destroyed, such actions are clearly planned," the lawyer said. In the third stage, Russia is attempted to prevent or limit exports of Ukrainian food. The Russian Armed Forces attacked grain objects on the Danube and created dangerous conditions in the Black Sea. In late July and early August, the invaders destroyed 270 thousand tons of food, the newspaper said.

Global Rights Compliance will work with Ukrainian prosecutors on the formation of dossier by the end of 2024. The goal is to apply in accordance with Article 15 of the Roman Statute, which allows third parties to send information about the likely military crimes of the ISS prosecutor, it will decide whether to continue the case.

"Putin may be responsible for committing these crimes directly, together with others or through others, and for the inability to exercise proper control over Russian military or other persons accused of specific criminal acts," Khan says.

Part of the efforts are directed to the identification of the perpetrators, including whether to demand Putin's prosecution, as it happened in March, when the ISS issued a warrant for the arrest of the President for the supervision of the "illegal deportation" of Ukrainian children in Russia from the occupied territories wars. According to Khan, the same can be said about hunger -related crimes.

Lawyers work with experts in open source intelligence to detail examples of war crimes and participate in the analysis of losses. Recall that in North Korea many people are starving, but because of dictatorship they cannot tell it openly. In villages, whole families die from food. In June, the Croatian government recognized the Holodomor of 1932-1933 by the genocide of the Ukrainian people. The Soviet authorities specifically harvested grain and other products from peasants from Ukraine.
