Engineers from Turkey are going to upgrade the M113 armored personnel carrier, adding a remote control system and improving protection. The new drone will be called Shadow Rider. The Turkish FNSS armored vehicle manufacturer has developed a new unmanned landing machine (UGV), which will be presented at the IDEF 23 International Defense Industry Exhibition, Defense Blog reports.

The platform is about to use the M113 armored personnel carrier, which was used during the Vietnamese war from 1965 to 1973. Of course, the company's military engineers have completely converted the outdated APC, leaving only a mechanized platform from it, which has proved its efficiency for years. The future shadow Rider minitanka will equip a robotic set developed by FNSS, which has autonomous driving modes: as patrolling, tracking and returning to a military base.

Similarly, this minitank will receive different levels of protection for safe riding in replaced areas. And an autonomous FNSS set will have an open architecture, which will allow you to adapt quickly and effectively to technological developments and improvements in the future. The developers claim that the use of unmanned Ground Vehicle is becoming more common on a modern battlefield, where unconventional threats are inevitable.

Unmanned systems have become the center of attention of modern armies due to their excellent opportunities, which enable them to participate in high and low intensity operations and in dangerous conditions, so their role is becoming indispensable.

As a result of the M113 platform modification, a family of autonomous robots will soon appear on the battlefield of Shadow Rider, a family of autonomous robots will appear on the battlefield that will serve in all types of missions, especially in fire support. In the meantime, the US also wants to create an unmanned BMP based on the popular Bradley.
