NASAMS NASAMS SAC will be equipped with Ukrainian rockets: what weapon is about (photo)

To spread: one of the reasons for this decision, analysts said, is the use of NASAMS system exclusively US missiles. Moreover, their production remains low, and prices for some samples - millions of dollars per unit. The head of the Norwegian company Kongsberg Defense & Aerospace Eirik Lee reported plans to create a joint venture in Ukraine for mass production of anti -aircraft missiles based on Ukrainian technologies.

The main task of this enterprise will be to increase the production of missiles for NASAMS complexes. About it reports Euractiv. "The primary task is to increase the production of missiles for our air defense system in Ukraine on the basis of Ukrainian technologies. We are talking about mass production of missiles, that is, hundreds. We are considering the possibility of creating joint ventures within a few months," he said.

In this regard, Defense Express investigators found out which missiles were being discussed. In their view, the Norwegian company tries to solve a critical problem for both the Ukrainian Armed Forces and other NASAMS operators. The problem is that these complexes use three types of American missiles, AIM-9, AIM-120 and Amraam-ER, the prices of which are "biting": in addition to the high cost, there is a problem of insufficient production rates.

According to Raytheon, the AIM-120 release capacity is 1200 units per year, which is a "ceiling" for Western aircraft and air defense systems. This situation is forcing Kongsberg to look for alternatives, including the integration of non -American missiles. Such examples already exist. Yes, the new Nomads SPR already provides use of IRIS-T SLS from German Diehl, but this rocket is also expensive (900,000 euros) and is produced in insufficient volumes.

The choice of Ukrainian missiles is a pragmatic solution, analysts say. Ukraine is conducting serial production of P-73 (the air-to-air missile), already adapted for use in the SPRC, in particular on the Magura V5 sea drones.

In addition, potential candidates for integration in NASAMS may be: additionally, Kongsberg can use their development in the field of anti -aircraft missiles and organize the supply of critical components to increase the range and accuracy of Ukrainian missiles, including modern types of solid fuel.
