Air comes from the Russian MCC segment. "Roscosmos" recognizes the problem: what is threatening

The Russian Space Agency confirmed that one of the modules of the International Space Station continues to lose air. In the Russian module of the International Space Station (ICS) under the name "Star" there is a leakage of air. The existing problem was recognized in Roscosmos and stated that this situation does not pose a threat to the life of the crew of the orbital station or to work it, writes The Guardian. In focus. Technology has appeared its Telegram channel.

Subscribe not to miss the latest and most intrusive news from the world of science! Joel Montalbano, the leader of the ISS project in NASA, on Wednesday, February 28, said that the Russian module "Star" has a continuing leakage of air. At the same time, he noted that the level of air outlet has doubled, although this is not a threat to the safety of the crew of the orbital station or its work.

This information was confirmed in Roscosmos and also stated that it is not necessary to worry about it, and now the Russian space agency is engaged in tracking and studying the problem. The Russians also stated that there is no threat to the life of astronauts at the ISS, this leak also does not affect the overall work of the station. According to the Russian Space Agency, its experts are constantly monitoring the leakage and looking for the places where it occurs to eliminate the problem.

Roscosmos stated that, given the age of the ISS, and the stations for 25 years, astronauts have to spend more time on its repair and maintenance. For the first time, the air leakage occurred in the module of Star, the Russians reported in August 2020. Later, Russian astronauts stated that they found a source of the problem and tried to eliminate it. In November 2021, astronauts found another potentially leaky place in the rest of the Russian ISS segment.

Then the Russians and NASA together stated that there was no threat to astronauts and the station. Over the past few years, accidents in the Russian ISS segment have occurred quite often. For example, in October last year, as focus wrote, the accident happened in the Russian module "Science". Then a cooling liquid leak from the cooling system, which is located outside the module, was detected. At the same time, the main system of temperature regulation worked normally.

At that time, Roscosmos stated that it did not threaten the lives of astronauts and the safe work of all MCCs. And in February last year, the same leakage of the cooling substance was found on the Russian freight spacecraft "Progress", as focus has already written. And two months earlier, in December 2022, the same accident happened on the Russian Space ship "Soyuz", which was to deliver astronauts to Earth, but eventually had to look for a replacement, as focus had already written.

Investigation of the Roscosmos of the two above accidents showed that, most likely, the cause of damage to the cooling systems were the strikes of tiny meteorites. Thus, the Russians denied the version that these accidents are related to production defects. After a full -scale invasion of the Russian Federation into Ukraine 2 years ago, the ICS remains one of the last places of cooperation between Russia and the Western countries, in particular from the United States.
