Five-five Submarine "Yasen-M": why the Russian Federation spends billions on the underwater fleet when fighting on land

Experts noted that Moscow's huge funds for the creation of submarines contrast with the ability to create high -tech weapons against the background of war in Ukraine and international sanctions. From November 19, the state media of the Russian Federation became aware of the plans of the shipbuilding company "Sevmash" to lay the nuclear submarine (APCH) of 885m "Yasen-M" K-564 "Arkhangelsk" in the second half of November.

In addition, Russia plans to increase the number of Submarine Class "Ash" to 12, starting the construction of three more boats. Bulgarian Military Vieces have tried to answer the question why Russia is investing huge funds in the underwater fleet against the backdrop of a continuous land war in Ukraine.

First of all, it was abolished that despite the unconfirmed data on the intention to lay three more submarines of the Class "Ash", such plans of the aggressor country testify to its military budget. In 2023, it will exceed 5. 6 trillion rubles, which approximately corresponds to $ 62 billion. As for the submarine of the project 885m, on paper their specifications look impressive. Thus, the watertone of these APLs is up to 8600 tons on the surface and up to 13,000 tons under water.

Their diameter reaches approximately 13 m and the length is 130 m. On the surface they can develop speed up to 16 knots (up to 30 km/h), under water - up to 31 knots (up to 58 km/h), keeping autonomy up to 100 days. For a crew of 64 people, each submarine has a significant weapon: 10 torpedoes containing 30 torpedoes, and 8 starting cells, each with 4 Okinski missiles or 5 Kaliber missiles can be placed. Thus, each submarine can carry up to 32 Okinsk missiles or up to 40 Kaliber missiles.

At the same time, the cost of these submarines is a matter of debate. It is expected that the cost of each APL will be from 41 billion rubles ($ 455 million). "The fact that Russia, despite the conduct of land wars, continues to spend on its fleet - the industry is known to be resource -intensive," the authors of the material write.

Experts point out that Moscow's investment in such huge resources in the creation of submarine, contrasts with the fact that it can invest in the creation of high -tech weapons in the conditions of continuing conflict in Ukraine and numerous international economic sanctions. But the answer, perhaps, lies in the fact that saying about the underground boats "Yasen-M", Russia deliberately "inflates" its defense budget-it can create a false idea of its real costs for defense.
