"War comes 10 hours from Vienna." The main event of Viennacontemporyarry artworms was the Statement Ukraine on the war and Ukrainian artists

In Vienna, a panel discussion on the cultural European integration of Ukraine on the way to the EU and the exhibition of contemporary Ukrainian art was held within the framework of the annual art fair. Vienna Contemporary (VCT) is the leading fair of contemporary art of Central and Eastern Europe in Vienna. Focusing on the Central and Eastern Art, VCT attracts international and Austrian galleries that exhibit the works of young and recognized artists of contemporary art.

The VCT 2022 focus was the Statement Ukraine, the main purpose of which is to ensure the visibility of Ukrainian culture in Europe and to support workers of culture and art of Ukraine. Video of the Day "The main purpose of our efforts, to remind that in 10 o'clock the ride from Vienna is war, Ukrainians die," - comments Yana Barinova, recently, director of development in Viennacontempory.

Statement Ukraine is the first stream project in the history of the fair whose leaders seek to add a social component to their annual event. In the following years, the organization plans to choose topical topics that need to be illuminated at the cultural level, this year the war in Ukraine has become such a topic.

The stity was initiated by Boris Ondrachka, VCT artistic director, and Yana Barinova, formerly the director of the KSCA Department of Culture, who currently works as a European Policies and Ukraine Projects manager at Erste Foundation and Development Director in VCT. “Contemporary is more than the design of the art market, it is a platform that gives prospects and gives voice. Ukrainians now have to be heard.

That is why we launched a statement of Ukraine, ”said Marcus Huber, Executive Director of Viennacontempory. Statement Ukraine included a large panel discussion Ukrainian culture on the path to the EU/ Ukrainian Culture on Its Path to the EU, consisting of two parts, exhibitions of Ukrainian artists The Cockerel with Black Wings: a recovered heirlom and Nft vc. In addition, the works of several Ukrainian artists were presented at the fair itself.

"Each part in the preparation was very complicated in its own way, in general it seemed that it was almost impossible to have time," says Yana Barinova. - The financing of the entire stetum was confirmed only in the middle of summer. I arrived in Vienna in March, in April we conceptually issued this stity, in May I prepared proposals for donor organizations, and we received confirmation in July.

From the idea to its physical embodiment, we made a quantum jump, as for Austria, a very regulated country, where all projects and funding are approved for a year or even several years. It was a global problem with accelerating all procedures. With panel discussion, the main complexity was to ensure the presence of worthy speakers. Unfortunately, officials from Ukraine could not physically come. There was only a fairly productive video clip, but the physical presence produces a much better result.

The logistics of art objects from Ukraine has also become a great test. We were very worried that nothing happened to them physically. As for the NFT, it is simply a unique project that took a lot of faith and patience. This is not all understood by the technology that not everyone is interested in working with, and we also combined artists into a couple, consisting of Ukrainian creators and famous creators of crypto-community.

Challenge was in every project, at every stage, and we had a very limited time to implement it all, but the teams of all tangent organizations to the project I thank, showed flexibility and helped it in time. " In the cultural industry, determining the priorities and zones of responsibility, involvement in cooperation as widely as possible a range of experts of Ukraine and EU countries, outline directions and development of KPI for these complex processes. Barinova.

- But it became even more obvious that we lacking institutions that are long -term systematically engaged in cultural policy, cultural diplomacy. There is not enough infrastructure, lacking in education, cultural professions. But it must be done on the basis of state programs, is many initiatives, but they need a state coordinate system that helps them. I see no problem in artists, I consider our art arena In a very diverse, rich various cultural products, it is a very interesting environment.

Therefore, many residences, cultural galleries abroad are happy to accept Ukrainians. This is not a gesture of goodwill, it is about us and the quality of our product. Unfortunately, this has become noticeable in many cases because of the war, but we have always been self -sufficient, quality from a cultural point of view by the country. We have enormous export cultural potential. We only need to learn how to appreciate our artists and create opportunities for their development.

" The first panel was devoted to the necessary integration reforms in the public cultural sector of Ukraine; The second is the art and creative industry during the war. 1 Francesca Tisen, founder and head Thyssen-Bornemisza Art Contemporary (TBA21): “Cultures often become the second front of the war, and this is what we see now. One example can be avant -garde.

Earlier, Ukrainian artists were mixed in the Russian exposition, but now, after the awareness of Russian narratives, it became important to separate Ukrainian artists and demonstrate their important role in creating a direction. The avant -garde developed in Kiev, but people tend to forget about it. And we must remind them of this fact. The same with Ukrainian cinema, we have provided technique for the digitalization of Ukrainian films from the early 20th century to save them.

It's more than 70 films. " 2 Yana Barinova, Viennacontemporyry Development Director, former Director of the Kyiv Cultural Department: “It is striking that more than 250 Ukrainian and Austrian guests have visited Statement Ukraine events. Today we are doing everything to make Ukraine in the spotlight around the world, it is a constant reminder that Ukrainians are killed simply for their culture, for their ethnicity and for their choice to exist as an independent state.

This is our responsibility on how to rebuild the country after victory and how to get closer to membership in the European Union. Therefore, our very serious task is to understand the history and modern narratives of Ukrainian national and cultural identity and to enter into constructive dialogue about them with Europe, and in particular with Austria and Vienna. " 3 Judit Kolenberger, cultural scientist and migration researcher: “Austria must continue to accept displaced persons.

To accept Ukrainians is a mutually beneficial matter, because they bring so many talents to all areas. Therefore, it is important to stop focusing on rapid integration for the benefit of the sustainable. ” An important place in the Statement Ukraine was the exhibition of The Cockerel with Black Wings: A Recovered Heirloom, which was Kateryna Filyuk, where thirteen Ukrainian and international artists explore the theme of war.

The exhibition highlights the problems of lost relics and various social relations that are laid in them. It takes the form of speculative and touching memoirs that lead the visitor to the East, although they try to avoid any melancholy mood at all costs that can be related to such a journey. “I hope the name of the exhibition became quite intriguing for guests.

It is not necessary to explain the Ukrainians: the picture with a rooster, which is still holding in a completely destroyed rocket of the house, has become the right one. That rooster immediately became a symbol of Ukrainian confrontation and stability, and I wanted to expand this meaning somewhat, to make it a symbol of faith. In a couple of decades, his grandfather who was still young, will give this rooster to his grandchildren and tell his story.

This exhibition tells one way or another about such things, valuable, beautiful, important for everyone in everyone; It reminds of how many people have lost their home with such things, the memories that they stand behind them, ”Kateryna Filyuk said of her curator.
