"Must be at everyone": as "Candy" saves the lives of the Armed Forces fighters - BBC

Drone detectors could prevent the Patriot and the 128th brigade in the Zaporizhzhia region, according to radio technology specialist Sergey Beskrestnov. The Ukrainian Candy Detector from Drone-SPICES is very popular with the military personnel of the Defense Forces of Ukraine. The device warns the military about the approach of enemy drones, saving their lives. How "Candy" appeared and how it is used on the front, said in BBC.

The Armed Forces serviceman and radio technology specialist Sergey Beskrestnov (Sergey Flesh) noted that the need for UAV detectors among the military has a long time ago, especially against the background of more and more drones of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, which penetrated the deep rear.

According to him, reconnaissance drones made it possible for the occupiers to attack the Patriot starting unit, Ukrainian helicopters, as well as fighters of the 128th brigade, who were lined up in the village in Zaporozhye. Sergiy Beskrestnov stressed that if the military had candy devices, these tragedies could be avoided. The advantage of "Sugar" is compactness and ease of use.

When the enemy drone is nearby, the detector squeals, allowing the military to change their position or leave transport. "The soldier wants to have a simple option: it was recovered - so the anxiety, did not record - everything is OK," the expert explained. The commander of the battalion of unmanned systems Mykola Kolesnyk confirmed that such detectors have saved from the death of many of his fighters. "Every fighter must be in every car, in every UAV crew because he really saves," he said.

"The crew worked, loaded into the car, 7 km to the LBZ (line of combat collision - ed. )," Sugar "in the salon begins to wail, jumped out of the car, in seconds of damage by one" lancet "and immediately. Said the officer. "Candy" was invented by Ukrainian programmer Dmitry Seline, who lives in London. The military complained to him that the enemy was using reconnaissance UAVs to adjust artillery, so the programmer decided to create a device that would warn of danger.

The purpose was to create a mass, simple and cheap device. The first prototype "Sugar" appeared in the fall of 2022. To create his receiver, Dmitry Sellene studied the trophy -fashioned trophy -modules and bought similar components. According to him, it was most difficult to think about an algorithm that would give the necessary ratio of false and correct works and a system of determining the type of drone.

The name "Candy" invented spontaneously when he was looking for a compact and convenient box in the shops, which would fit the whole electronics. The best for the prototype was a plastic sugar box. After the first "sugar" on the front, the "sundress radio" worked and many orders appeared. Such a device costs UAH 2400. Currently, the queue for detectors is three months. Production is complicated, including long delivery of components from abroad and problems with customs.

"Here you say why everyone is looking for where to buy? I would already make tens of thousands of pieces, and everyone would not be looking for. But to do it, you need to start accessories, pay and make. The knife is "produced",-the developer plans to scale the production of "Sugar". Purchase for the military. And if the parameters are selected correctly, the signal can be intercepted and displayed on a small screen.

This feature also helps to determine the type of Russian UAVs, as these "jumps" have a certain step and speed. The detector can distinguish between the reconnaissance UAVs "Orlan", "Eleron", Zala and SuperCam, lancet lancer bargaining, as well as small Mavic copters. Difficulties arise only with some FPV-Dron-"Candy" reveals them, but not very clearly. FPV drones are now switching to reduced frequencies, so the detector needs to have a special antenna.

In addition, experienced FPV-aid operators began to switch off the telemetry signal during a target, which is why the detector cannot intercept it. However, Ukrainian engineers are already working to eliminate these problems. "Does all the military" candy "need? . To be a "car", it is necessary to make two more improvements. We will remind, in March last year Sergey Flesh reported that Ukrainian experts together with Dutch partners develop a portable device that reports the approach of drones.
