According to the IAEA press service, Ukrainian firefighters eliminate the remaining fires in difficult weather conditions. Representatives of the international organization reported from the scene of the incident that the drone punched the roof of a large arch structure built to prevent any radioactive release from the damaged reactor.
As a result of the impact, a hole was formed in a diameter of about six meters, damaged the internal and external cladding of the arch, as well as part of the equipment and electrical cables. However, the supporting beams remained intact. At the site of the impact, the IAEA group found the smoke coming out of the roof, and the smell of burning plastic - the fire is probably caused by flammable materials in the roof cladding.
It is also reported that despite the losses, the level of radiation at the object remains within the normal range. The measurements made by experts confirmed that the indicators have not changed compared to preliminary data. In the near future, it is planned to install additional sensors to monitor the radiation background, but this will only be possible after the fire is completely eliminated.
For its part, the press service of the State Agency of Ukraine for Management of the Exclusion Zone reported that six SES staff and two units of special equipment work at the scene. In addition, due to the possible risks of radiation pollution in the exclusion zone, control over the radiation situation has been increased. In this case, the operational analysis of the data did not find excess of radiation background standards.
"The radiation background in the exclusion zone is controlled by an automated radiation state control system (ASRS) in continuous mode at 39 points. The data is coming around the clock to the dispatching center once an hour, and in an emergency situation - every 1 minute," the message said . Earlier, experts told what the consequences of a Russian blow to the Chernobyl NPP could be.
