"It is not Himars helps Ukraine win war": like si, drones and satellites helped the Armed Forces

Without the latest "commercial" technologies, rapid processing of information and intelligence Himars would not have become such an effective weapon against the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. The war for Ukrainians is helpful not to win artillery and rockets as modern information technologies: drones, satellites and artificial intelligence. American experts told this VOX.

According to former US Department of Defense, the majority of advanced technologies used by Ukraine are commercial, that is, they can be purchased not only by the military. The US Army also tried to take on the ready -made solutions on the market, but on its way the bureaucracy and protests of weapons production constantly stood up. Now the experts and policies of the West evaluate how effectively technologies are used during the war in Ukraine along with advanced weapons.

The researcher of Washington New American Analytical Center Candis Rondo noticed in Ukraine a unique combination of combat and information technologies. It has recognized the important effect of Himars volley fire systems produced by Lockheed Martin, which the US was handed over to the Armed Forces, but some would not be enough for a successful counter -offensive. The military also requires the enemy's location, as well as platforms for communication to pass them to artillerymen.

"This is not Himars won war for Ukraine and not traditional artillery duels. It is the ability of Ukrainians to process information faster than the Russians, which is influenced by the most powerful," said Jim Mitr, director of the Rand International Security and Defense Program. Small civilian drones, which are used to accomplish many tasks, including intelligence and adjustment of artillery fire, play an important role in the victories of the Armed Forces.

With their help, the Armed Forces fighters can monitor the Russian positions in real time, remaining unnoticed, while the artillerymen are giving and opening fire. Some drones are equipped with mechanisms for dumping grenades, sometimes they are launched by whole "swarms".

Commercial satellites also help Ukrainians monitor the movement of Russian troops, make cards and even investigate military crimes, for example, recently satellite data have shown how Russia has destroyed 10 million tons of Ukrainian grain. Shortly after the start of the full -scale war, SpaceX provided Ukraine with access to the Starlink Satellite Internet, which provided the military protected even in the most remote areas of the country.

Another promising military technology was artificial intelligence. In March, Clearview AI provided Ukrainians with access to people. Previously, such technologies were used in Afghanistan, but in Ukraine it has become more used, although some experts have warned about risks.

"This is the first major conflict with the use of ordinary weapons that use people's recognition," commented the futurist Peter Singer, the head of the Useful Fiction, which advises the US Air Force and large military contractors. Recently former Google CEO, billionaire Eric Schmidt has met with high -ranking Ukrainian officials to study the impact of technology in the modern war.

He concluded that the governments in the West should take an example from Ukraine and actively integrate new developments into the army. He noted that the Verkhovna Rada quickly changed the legislation at the beginning of the war to transfer sensitive data to "clouds", although it should be done much earlier. In August, the Sergiy Pritula Foundation bought Iceye satellite for Ukraine for money, collected through donations.
