Russian oligarchs Aven and Friedman won the EU Court: they partially lifted sanctions

According to the journalist Ricarda Jazvak, such a decision of the EU Court is a bad sign, because on the agenda almost the victory of Russian oligarchs associated with the Russian authorities. Famous sub -Russian oligarchs Michael Friedman and Petro Aena have achieved the removal of the EU sanctions. From now on, their surnames will not be on the sanction list, writes Radio Svoboda journalist in his own social networking account.

However, he specifies that this European Court's decision applies only to the sanction list from February 2022 to March 2023, that is, they remain under sanctions, since the list was renewed in early 2024. At the same time, Jezvyak notes that in general it is a bad sign, because on the agenda almost the victory of Russian oligarchs, which really help the Putin regime.

However, the EU Court did not consider the Council of Europe arguments sufficiently proved regarding the financial support of these oligarchs of the Russian Federation. "Another blow to the EU's sanctions against Russia," the journalist emphasized. The co-owners of Alfa-Bank Friedman and Aven became a sub-EU of February 28, 2022, because they had broad ties in the Russian authorities.

Ukraine has imposed sanctions against a number of companies, some of which are related to Friedman, in November 2023, and the Bureau of Economic Security was suspected of money laundering through the Ukrainian Alfa-Bank Ukraine (now "Sens Bank"). Last summer, the United States imposed their sanctions against these two Russian oligarchs.

In September 2022, the NSDC Friedman and Aena were sanctioned with 1300 individuals involved in fake referendums and occupation of the Ukrainian territories in September 2022. At the end of last year, Friedman was suspected of financing defense plants in the Russian Federation, as reported by the Security Service of Ukraine.
