Laser air defense replacement: US will experience powerful microwave weapons in battle with drones

The US Army hopes that microwave installations will be more effective against UAVs than laser weapons, which are constantly scattered. In the US, they decided to send several microwave systems to combat drones to the Middle East. The US military intends to protest their work in combat conditions, writes Wreaking Defense.

According to General Randy General Chief, after receiving four prototypes of powerful IFPC-HPM microwave systems, Epirus-made Epirus, designed to combat drones, the US Army is preparing to send them to the Middle East to check how they work in real armed conflict.

Colonel Dave Butler, a representative of the commander-in-chief of the army, later confirmed that as soon as all the necessary permits would be obtained, all four prototypes of "high-power microwave tools for indirect protection against fire" (IFPC-HPM) will be sent to the Middle East. According to him, the idea is that the soldier, the developer and the tester can, together in the real environment, check the capabilities of weapons, adjust it.

The spread of drones and other air threats has accelerated the development and implementation of new systems of counteracting them. The military is interested in systems that are cheap to operate. Directed energy systems, such as high -energy lasers and powerful microwaves, will finally be put into operation after decades.

In February, for example, the Deputy Chief of Staff, General James Minhus for the first time, reported that four prototypes of 50 kilot laser installations had already been sent to the region. According to soldiers' feedback, tools have problems with size, weight and power. The Army Supply Head of DAG Bush reported that the power of 50 kW is insufficient, as the laser is mounted on a vehicle that should move constantly. As a result, the laser beam is scattered, which makes its use ineffective.
