The House of Representatives forbade Uranus imports from the Russian Federation - the media

According to experts, such a ban can affect the price of enriched uranium, because Russian imports occupied a large share in the market. The House of Representatives of the United States Congress has voted to ban the import of enriched uranium from Russia, which is used in nuclear energy. Bloomberg writes about it. In the case of the drafting of the US Senate and Joe Biden, the ban will be prohibited within 90 days after the law is passed.

However, it is noted that temporary exclusion is allowed by 2028. The publication writes that last year the Uranium in the United States was imported from Russia. In particular, it is a quarter of uranium used for the production of 90 reactors for nuclear fuel. In addition, the Russian Federation is the only source of highly enriched Uranus Haleu, which is needed for modern new generation reactors that are now being developed. It is expected that the ban will be valid by 2040.

However, some exceptions are possible if the US does not find new suppliers, or imports Russian -enriched uranium is recognized as that meets national interests. According to Jonathan Hinze, the President of the Nuclear Fuel Market Company, the US government may admit that there is no alternative. In particular, he does not know why such volumes of Russian uranium could be covered. Hinze also explained that in response to the bill, Russia could unilaterally ban exports.

According to preliminary estimates, such a decision of the US Congress can increase the cost of nuclear fuel by 13% or even 20%. We will remind, according to journalists, the Russian nuclear weapons plant sells isotope to Sweden. They are supplied by Russian intelligence companies. Also at the end of November, Energoatom reported that Uranus will be supplied to Ukrainian nuclear power plants by the British company.
