Vitaliy Portnikov journalist a recent arrival in Vienna of the Hungarian governm...

Putin would like that. What does Victor Orban do

Vitaliy Portnikov journalist a recent arrival in Vienna of the Hungarian government Viktor Orban caused a flurry of annoyed comments even those observers who believed that the Austrian Federal Chancellor Carl Nezammer had the full right to meet with the head of a neighboring country, praised the head of the Austrian government. The Hungarian liberal opposition, on the contrary, was embarrassed, - writes Vitaliy Portnikov for Svoboda.

"Neammmer had to understand who he invited - a politician who repeatedly violated the basic democratic principles, innumerable times opposed the EU and openly takes a pro -Russian position on the war," - said Népszava's observer. After his recent speech to the representatives of the Hungarian national minority in Romania, Orban - perhaps unexpectedly for himself - turned into a true "toxic" policy, which is simply dangerous to invite with visits in terms of public opinion reaction.

“It is impossible to stand up for Ukraine as long as your ally is Putin's friend. It is impossible to advocate solidarity and openness and at the same time close your eyes to socially dangerous statements that threaten a split in society. Silence is the same crime, ”the Polish Rzeczpospolita, whose author demanded from his government, wrote after this speech by Orbana.

The narrative of Russian propaganda of Europeans, this loud speech of Orban was interested primarily from the point of view of frankly racist statements. But what Orban said about Russia against Ukraine is an equally dangerous substitution of concepts. Orban has turned into a true "toxic" policy Hungarian prime minister positioned himself as an ally of Ukraine. But he described the war as the "War of the Slavs", to which the Hungarians have nothing to do - though they die on it.

And as the reasons for the war he called the non -compliance of the Minsk agreements and the unwillingness of the West to give Russia the guarantees of Ukraine's failure to NATO. Both theses are the narrative of Russian propaganda. I will not remind that the Minsk agreements were not going to execute Russia itself, which did not even try to withdraw their troops and mercenaries from the occupied territories.

But the main thing is that the agreements themselves arose as a result of Russia's actual attack on Ukraine in 2014 and the occupation of part of the Ukrainian territory. When it comes to NATO, it is worth mentioning that at the time of Russia no one tried to seriously discuss the issues of Ukraine's possible accession to the North Atlantic Alliance.

But when the decision to join the Alliance was adopted in Finland and Sweden, in Moscow they were limited to warnings that will respond symmetrically to the development of NATO military architecture near their borders. But we do not see any signs that Russia is going to attack Finland when NATO finds itself near St. Petersburg. Orban is soul beyond when Russia will continue the war until he protects himself from the weapon that the West supplies to Ukraine.

However, Russian rockets even reached the Transcarpathian region, to the borders of Ukraine and Hungary. The problem is that after the occupation of Crimea, Russia can declare any Ukrainian region in its territory. And where then to move her troops to ensure Russia's safety? To Uzhgorod? This is obvious what Vladimir Putin would like.
