One of the consequences is the increase in the number of vessels that turn off their automatic identification system, which makes it difficult to determine their origin or what they do in the Baltic Sea.

The contraradmiral calls them "ghostly vessels", which become more and more. Estonian researchers have suggested that Russia is on GPS obstacles and uses electromagnetic means of fighting at the Tobol complex in the Kaliningrad region of Russia. The Russian region is of great concern in NATO countries, as it is located only 65 km west of Belarus, separated by a strip of the Polish-Lithuanian border, known as Suven Corridor.

If Russia breaks into the area, it will be able to isolate Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia from NATO's revenues with land. According to the Swedish commander, NATO Union countries have to resolve the situation by increasing their presence in the Baltic Sea. "I think that safety is only available by the presence. Be near the merchant vessel, so that it can also feel safe," says contraradmiral. This can mean using NATO resources to accompany merchant vessels to help with navigation or other problems.

Recall that at the end of January 2024 Estonia accused Russia of trying to stuff GPS. Martin Herem, commander of Estonia Defense Forces, reported that Russia was taking measures to suppress GPS in Europe. He emphasized that it was the Kremlin who is in violation of the signals of the global positioning system, when in the Baltic region since last year the obstacles of satellite navigation systems have increased.

The same trend was registered in January from Finland to Poland and the Black Sea region. The Markus Jonsson OSINT analyst reported that the Russian EWS systems in Kaliningrad continue to operate at full capacity and cover more and more territories. As of mid -March 2024, at least 873 civilian passenger aircraft did not operate navigation equipment. In addition, some military aircraft were affected by aircraft that suffer from the absence of GPS.
