According to the newspaper, for the first time the trading vessel was confiscated by the government after damage to the underwater cable. The Eagle S ship -related ship pulled its anchor with a seabed, in the area where Estlink 2 underwater cable was damaged, according to the Finnish National Bureau of Investigation.

NATO representatives said they had intensified the naval patrols for the protection of underwater cables, while the leaders of the Baltic countries met to discuss the threat of the "shadow fleet" of Russian trade tankers. Investigators say they were able to identify a trace from an anchor that stretches the sea bottom for tens of kilometers. According to knowledgeable sources, Eagle S is equipped with transmitting and receiving devices atypical for commercial vessels.

This equipment was reported on board in large portable suitcases and was used to monitor radio frequency, recording NATO messages and the transfer of collected data to the Russian authorities. Similar systems were present at SwiftsEA Rider, another tanker associated with the same shadow network. This is the second major violation of critical infrastructure in the Baltic Sea in two months.

In November, the Drunk Storm Under the Flag of China Yi Peng 3 was suspected of damaging C-Lion 1 communication cable between Finland and Germany. Eagle S, as well as Swiftsea Rider is included in the "shadow fleet" of the Russian Federation, which consists of 26 old tankers. The vessels function on opaque property structures and use methods designed to bypass international sanctions. Both tankers are linked to Eiger Shipping, the naval unit of the Russian Oil Training Company Litasco.

Details of ownership are hidden by complex corporate agreements, and the registered Eagle S owner uses the Dubai address related to a luxury hotel. Eagle S goes under the flag of Cook Islands, and SwiftsEA Rider - under the flag of Honduras. Both tankers were criticized for poor service and safety standards, as well as for the history of violations of regulatory requirements.

The reports show that during the Danish Inspection, numerous disadvantages were detected in June S, including the power outage of high power supply to the surveillance equipment. Journalists point out that the Eagle S observation system was governed by Russian, Turkish and Indian staff. Devices on the bridge of the ship and the "monkey island" (its highest deck) were registered and compared by NATO radio frequencies, which were later analyzed in Russia.
