In Iraq, tourists flock to a 2300-year-old city destroyed by a barbaric attack IDIL (photo)

The ancient city was once a great religious and shopping center of the Parfyan Empire and had high fortifications and wonderful temples, whose architectural style was inspired by the Greeks and Romans. Hatra (or El Khadr), an ancient city, which was part of the Parfyan kingdom and is 110 km southwest of Mosul, was severely injured in 2015 at the hands of the terrorist group of IDIL, during the period when the militants occupied the region, writes Express.

5 years after the defeat of Idila Mosul and the adjacent areas began to return to normal life, and the historical monument of Hatra was again open to tourists. In an effort to demonstrate inheritance and identity, Mosul's Heritage House organized an excursion to an ancient place. The UNESCO was introduced to the List of World Heritage Objects, Hatra was fortified by a caravan city, which served as the capital of the Small Arab Kingdom of Hatra, located between the Roman and Parfyan empires.

The city reached its heyday in the II century, but soon was destroyed and abandoned in the III century, until its amazing ruins were finally opened in the XIX century again. This place was just two hours away from Mosul, who served as the capital of the Islamic State during its short but cruel residence. During this period, the terrorist group condemned this ancient place, saying that many of its artifacts are "non -Islam" and encouraged polytheism, so they cannot be allowed.

And even though the place has been protected for 1400 years by various Islamic regimes based on the region. The ancient city was once a large religious and shopping center of the Parfyan Empire and had high fortifications and wonderful temples, the architectural style of which was inspired by the Greeks and Romans, adding some oriental decorative elements.

In 2015, IDIL posted a video where his militants destroy a number of bas -reliefs in this place, shooting them and dismantling the statues with picks. In February this year, local authorities presented three restorations at this point, including Roman -style sculptures and reliefs on the wall of a large temple. We will remind that earlier in the Philippines, scientists have come across a skeleton of a prehistoric person from the last glacial period.
