The explanatory note states that the law is intended to "restore Ukrainian historical and national toponymics and update it with the names of the latest heroes who fight the enemy. " Changes in the Law of Ukraine "On Geographical Names", aimed at decolonization of toponymy, provides a ban on the assignment of names of geographical objects that magnify, perpetuate, promote or symbolize the aggressor country.
The same applies to the monuments, historical and cultural places of Russia, its cities, commemorative dates, events and figures who carried out military aggression against Ukraine or other countries. According to the authors of the initiative, the adoption of the law should accelerate the detion and derusification of Ukraine. We will remind that in Kiev the monument to the Soviet general Nicholas Vatutin was removed. The monument for 75 years stood in Mariinsky Park.
