In the US created a Super Drone Dron Dragon: How will it help the Armed Forces (video)

To spread: Aerovironment presented a Red Dragon shock drone, which has to find goals on its own and navigate the space without GPS, at the Sof Week 2025 conference. Red Dragon weighs about 20 kg and starts with a catapult. Representatives of Aerovironment at the exhibition noted that it was already used in battle with one unpaid client. A disposable drone usually flies at a speed of about 90 km/h (25 m/c), but can accelerate up to 160 km/h (45 m/c) before stroke.

The total flight time is 400 km 5-6 hours. The Red Dragon has a modular compartment for payload with a maximum weight limit of about 10 kg. It is standard for it to place a two -kilogram warhead with a penetrating explosive, which allows you to punch armor. If necessary, you can place radio electronic fight or intelligence inside.

According to Aerovironment, the simplicity of the drone structure makes it inexpensive and allows you to quickly scale production, for this purpose the device uses commercially available components. The company plans to make an export version that is not subject to the International Weapon Trade Regulation (ITAR) of the US Government.

High -precision ammunition, which can be purchased relatively quickly and cheaply in large quantities, are interested in the US and other countries around the world. According to the developers, Red Dragon has high autonomy and requires "limited interaction with the user". UAV uses the visual navigation system and optical heading head so as not to rely on GPS and find targets even in the conditions of suppression by means of radio electronic struggle.

"It relied on our corporate visual navigation of Aerovironment, digital comparison of scenes and reinforced GPS to move from launching to target, and then it is relied on automatic recognition of targets with our SPOTR-EDGE product product line for identification and damage to the targets,"-added the AOROVIROVIR comment. SPOTR-EDGE is a system that automatically identifies and classifies goals based on a detailed built-in data library.

The drone Navigation System also combines data from other sources, including flight speed sensors, laser rangefinders and an "optical float" in the chamber, which helps to determine the location without the need to connect to GPS. As Michael Bigney explained, Red Dragon goals can be stationary infrastructure elements, complexes and even mobile goals such as trucks or other vehicles. The operator chooses the area in which the intended object should be.

Search time depends on how big the zone is, but as soon as Red Dragon finds a target, it takes for about a minute to fly to it. There is also a radio communication with the operator and a reinforced GPS system for safety. With their help you can change the mission in flight or choose a different target if the situation has changed. Having determined the target, the drone announces the operator and allows to cancel the attack.

It is unknown how Red Dragon works in case of loss of communication with the operator and can choose goals on its own. The maximum distance at which the operator may be on the drone depends on many factors, including the presence of radio electronic fight. According to Aerovironment, in optimal visibility, the range of communication between the user on Earth and the drone can reach approximately 65 km. The distance can be increased by means of air repeaters.
