Sanctions are not frightened: the Czech Republic increases imports of Russian gas

The supply of Russian "blue fuel" could increase through some gas stored in tanks in Ukraine for the winter, and now supply this resource to the Czech Republic. Russian gas continues to flow to the Czech Republic, its volume is gradually increasing, although in 2023 the country sharply reduced the consumption of "blue fuel" with the Russian Federation. In January 2024, according to Novinky. cz, the import of Russian gas was about 62% of the total.

According to the publication, the Czech Republic has increased supplies from November, and in December imports of Russian gas to the Czech Republic resumed through the Lazhot station from Slovakia. It is the only border point through which Russian gas can enter the Czech Republic. According to the publication, the increase in deliveries may be due to the fact that some enterprises have stored gas in tanks in Ukraine for the winter, and now import it into the Czech Republic.

According to the Unicredit Bank Economist Girzhi Pur, it is impossible for statistics to be distorted by transit or resale of Russian gas to other countries. "Because the vast majority of imported gas enters the Czech Republic: the total gas outflow from the Czech Republic abroad was only 9. 8% of the total inflow in November, 4. 8% in December and 5. 5% in December," he explained.

It should be noted that since 2022, when the European Union of EU began to restrict the import of Russian gas within the framework of the sanction due to the invasion of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation into Ukraine, Russian gas has not been received by the Czech Republic. He was replaced by Norwegian gas and liquefied natural gas (LNG) of terminals in the Netherlands and Belgium. After a full -scale invasion of Ukraine's supply of Russian "blue fuel" to Europe decreased significantly.

As reported in the fall of 2023 by The Guardian, the EU plans to completely abandon energy from the Russian Federation. It is noted that in 2021 the level of imports from the Russian Federation was 155 billion, but already in 2023 the figures decreased to 40-45 billion cubic meters. We will remind, in 2024 the term of the agreement is expired, according to which gas is supplied to Europe through the territory of Ukraine. The Ukrainian government is not going to continue the agreement.
