The Kremlin increases pressure and prohibits civil servants abroad - UK intelligence

According to the department, officials are forced to give their FSB their passports and other documents. Such measures can be aimed at preventing desertion among officials. For the first time from the beginning of a large -scale invasion of Russian troops in Ukraine, civil servants and employees of different levels have significant restrictions on traveling abroad. This is stated on March 15 in the reconnaissance of the UK Ministry of Defense.

The department noted that in view of these restrictions, some officials were probably forced to give their passports and documents to the Federal Security Service. Employees close to state structures are increasingly receiving orders to prohibit movement. This applies to international vacation trips. The measures that have been operating since the Soviet times, the Russian authorities have decided to expand.

At the same time, restrictions on trips were strengthened after the Russian annexation of Crimea in 2014. British intelligence noted that measures may be aimed at preventing desertion among officials who are more likely to demonstrate dissatisfaction with the ruling regime. The Russian authorities continue to focus on increased pressure and management apparatus. The losses in the war against Ukraine and the economic fall, according to British scouts, encourage the Kremlin to take decisive action.

Reasons to end the war against Ukraine. Recall that in February British intelligence dedicated its review to the Kremlin's plans to carry out a new mobilization in Russia. The authorities, according to experts, intend to continue to take appropriate measures, despite the fact that much of the mobilized Russians have already been sent to the occupied territories. According to a Russian survey conducted in December 2022, 52% of Russian residents had friends or relatives who went to fight.
