Trukhanov explained that one of the "evidence" on the existence of his citizenship of the Russian Federation appeared after "some lawyer" in April 2025 made a request to the occupying power of the Crimea, and then published a photo of this Russian passport. "Look at the dating - the passport, they say, issued on December 15, 2015. But during this period I was physically located in Odessa - it is visible in my publications and photos - and not only in mine.

So, it was impossible to get such a document personally. Biometric procedures require personal presence," Trukhanov said. He also reminded that such accusations have been received since 2014 and has received official answers from the Russian state bodies several times that he has no Russian citizenship. "I ask the President and competent services to look carefully at the documents and establish the truth," Trukhanov emphasized.

At the same time, the activist and blogger Sergey Sternenko again published a scancopy of documents, which was allegedly filled by Gennady Trukhanov to obtain Russian citizenship. They are dated 2011. In addition, Sternenko published a response from the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation of November 12, 2020, which states that Gennady Trukhanov was "recognized as a citizen of the Russian Federation".
