FPV-pts in the war. How will technology develop in 2024
Russia is quantitatively and resourceful Ukraine, so defense forces have to be asymmetrically. One of these answers is the FPV-arose that have already changed the situation on the battlefield. The focus talked with the director of the Fund "Return the Living" Taras Chmut and the Evgeny Diki's Eugene Welfare Eugene Eugene in order to understand how FPV drones change the Russian-Ukrainian war, and how technology will evolve in 2024.
The main difference between FPV-pings and ordinary drones is the principle of management. The military uses glasses of augmented reality to manage the first person's flight. The first use of such products was recorded in the spring of 2022. But flights without the battle part were before. Earlier, FPV drones were used enthusiasts for sports purposes. Even then, Kopters could develop a speed of more than 90 km/h.
However, it should be noted that it was not enough to simply add the combat part to the drone. The military needed to pick up the battery, receiver, motors, video transmitter and other elements to make the drone complete weapons. According to military observer Andrei Rimaruk, for the first time FPV drones were used without the combat part in 2019-2020 for intelligence.
"They at a maximum speed of 90-100 km/h flew at an altitude of 10-15 meters along trenches, platoon strongholds, enemies and thus conducted intelligence. - says Andriy Rimaruk. The veteran of the Russian-Ukrainian war, Yevgeny Diki, in a comment to Focus, expressed the opinion that what is observed on the front is now the peak of the use of FPV-oules. Their mass use is explained by the fact that there were no sufficient means of counteraction against them. The same effect will no longer be.
Russian troops, in particular, came to the fact that they cover their trenches on the so-called "Surovikin line" literally layers of plywood or nets to protect themselves from FPV. FPV drones have become a mass phenomenon on the front-it significantly changes the battlefield. Previously, the "visors" on tanks were installed to protect against anti -tank missiles, now they evolve and increase to protect against FPV. Sometimes, "brazier" cover the whole tank or BMP.
However, in addition, there are trenches of the IP and complexes for the protection of equipment. All because FPV drones were a cheap remedy that can hit a target for a few million dollars. Ukrainian drone operators have already published hundreds, if not thousands of videos of Russian equipment. Within the project "Army of Drones" from the Ministry of Defense, tens of thousands of drones for the defense forces. This also takes care of a large number of volunteers and funds.
According to Yevgeny Diki, there are no problems in Ukraine in Ukraine in order to sell their products. And according to experts from Defense Express, one infantry crew requires about 1000 FPV-roms a month, because in one day the calculation can be released up to 15 products per enemy. With regard to the efficiency of such drones, there is no official success of using FPV-roma so far, but there are data from individual crews, said Focus Eugene Dyky.
"Within individual brigades or units, there are such statistics. That is why thanks to good FPV-aeries statistics, they have replaced the Agsi, grenade launchers and the like to some extent. Accuracy Up to 50% of the targets, that is, every second one kicks the target. The average indicators are somewhat lower - one of the three, one of the four.
However, compared to artillery (not high -precision ammunition), it is statistically considered that one of 16 ammunition will strike the target ", - explains the wild. The director of the "Come back alive" Taras Chmut in conversation with focus adds that the problem is also in the calculation method. "Everyone leads in their own way. Someone gives the number of affected goals, someone destroyed and damaged, and someone simply reflects some results.
It is a rather chaotic and subjective process," Taras Chmut states. The cost of one usual 155mm ammunition is $ 2-3 thousand, and high-precision ammunition by Excalibur type reaches $ 180,000 per unit. At the same time, the price of one FPV-Drone is $ 400-500. It may seem obvious-you need more FPV-oules, because they can be bought more. However, it is worth noting the equally obvious difference between high -precision artillery ammunition and drone.
The weight of the projectile by the type of Excalibur is 48 kg, and the FPV-arable area of about one kilogram of plus the ammunition that it carries is 2-5 kg. Therefore, the mass of the battle part is significantly different. According to Taras Chmut, FPV drones should work in combination with high-precision artillery ammunition to enhance each other's advantages and eliminate disadvantages. Therefore, ideally you need to have both means of damage.
Yevgeny Dyky also gives an example of the protection of the Armed Forces from the shocks of FPV-oules. They cover the trenches with chipboard sheets or even elements of solar panels. This will work against a small drone for $ 500, but not a 155-mm projectile. FPV drones, under certain circumstances, can replace mortars, automatic easel grenade launchers or anti-tank grenade launchers, but not exactly artillery, according to a veteran of the Russian-Ukrainian war.
According to Yevgeny Diki, in 2024 it is worth reducing the use of FPV-oules. First of all, through the development of counteraction. They are needed as a type of weapons and already have their niche in the infantry weapon at the tactical level. "They will not leave the war at all. They have already occupied their niche in the arsenal of tactical infantry weapons. This niche will be quite narrow and it will not be able to change the nature of the war," Yevgeny wild summarized.
Taras Chmut spoke in a comment on Focus how FPV-punks will change next year. According to him, the development of resistance to complexes of electronic struggle may not be, but it is worth the introduction of elements of artificial intelligence. "Certain elements of an artificial element when the" brain "drone identifies and recognizes different objects against the background It is not something super-complex. We have at least 5-7 different manufacturers who try to implement it.
This is one of the further steps of FPV evolution, "said Focus Chmut. In addition, it is worth an increase in the radius of the lesion to 20, possibly up to 30 km using a signal repeater. Another element will be the development of factory ammunition for FPV-pings, Taras Chmut is convinced. Also, in his opinion, in 2024 the number of FPV-oules will only increase, in particular thermal imaging. The number of agents in the Armed Forces and the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation will also increase.
Russian troops became the first in the war to use FPV-a-municipal cameras on the battlefield. This innovation is an example of how the occupiers are able to learn and introduce new ideas at the front. Ukraine already has a mirror response. The "Come Alive" Foundation, together with other companies, raised over UAH 230 million for the purchase of 5000 FPV-aules, of which 3000 will have a thermal imaging chamber. The project was called "Unity 2: New Year Salute".
Taras Chmut spoke about the features of drones with a thermal imaging matrix in a comment to Focus. "Technically instead of a day camera like you in your smartphone, for example, a thermal imaging module is installed, the matrix is just as with optics. In fact, it is the same FPV-Dron only with another lost means of vision in the" brain "drone. The size of the drone in inches - focus), at the previous gathering were "seven", that is, this is larger.
Accordingly, it is more lifting, it can take two batteries of 10,000 milliamperies and give more flight with a larger combat part " The director "Come back alive" told. He also adds that the battery enlargement makes it possible to fly up to 20 km with a fighting part by 2. 5 kg and about 10 km with a fighting part by 4. 5 kg. The main change in value, and still need to look for a balance between the flight duration and the power of the combat part.
Ukrainian defenders destroyed the enemy Tos-1A "Solnicecco", tanks, BMPs, BTRO, living power, Reb, SCR, and other objects of Russian troops in small FPV-Drones. Therefore, there may be a feeling that anyone will be faster and more effective in the development of FPV-oules will win the war. However, according to Yevgeny Dyky, it is a naive statement. In Ukraine, there is no such weapon that would be "Gamechanger" and would change the situation at the front.
