Will track rockets, planes, helicopters and not only: what is known about RLS G/ATOR (photo)

To extend: Romanian state-owned ROMARM and American Northrop Grumman signed a memorandum on mutual understanding of the joint production of multi-purpose radar stations (RLS) An/TPS-80 G/ATOR, which combine two roles at once. RLS G/ATOR was developed by the US Marine Corps, which remains its main operator. In addition to the functionality of the ordinary radar for the detection of air goals, the station is able to act as a counter -battery radar, writes the Defense Express portal.

With G/ATOR, you can detect and track not only planes, helicopters, winged and ballistic missiles, but also artillery and mortar ammunition, in particular, determining their starting points. In addition, the system is capable of providing anti -aircraft complexes for the interception of air goals. According to the publication, such a radar can replace several radar products at once, which increases the mobility of troops.

The downside is that in the case of breakage of the system, the military will lose several opportunities at once. G/ATOR provides constant control of space of 360 ° and tracking targets in three dimensions. You can transport the system on one C-130 aircraft or three CH-53E Super Stallion helicopters or V-22 Osprey converters. The G/ATOR radar is expected to complement the recently ordered Romania Iron Dome anti-aircraft missile complexes.
