Warsaw Fist: There will be 366 Abrams tanks at the disposal of the Polish army

The "Iron Division" of the Polish troops will be formed from two battalions, each of which will consist of 58 American cars. Thus, the division will become one of the strongest tactical compounds in Europe. Poland is actively increasing its armored forces by buying modern Abrams tanks in the United States. After all supply, the Polish army will have 366 Abrams tanks, which will significantly strengthen its armored troops against other European countries.

This was reported on June 10 by the Polish edition of WP Tech. And the publication states that Poland has concluded several major contracts for supplying Abrams. In April 2022, an agreement was signed for the purchase of 250 cars of the M1A2 SEP V. 3 worth $ 4. 75 billion. This package also included training, logistics and ammunition. In January 2023, the Polish Ministry of Defense approved a contract for the supply of 116 tanks of the M1A1 FEP variant worth $ 1. 4 billion with a similar package.

The first supply began in June 2023, when 14 M1A1 FEP tanks arrived in Poland. Over the next six months, 26 tanks of this model were brought to the country, and in January 2024 another 29. Thus, there are 67 M1A1 FEP tanks and 28 American M1A2 Sepv2 tanks transmitted for educational purposes in Poland. Meanwhile, photos appeared on social networks that indicate that the new Abramos Party of 50 cars is already on the way from South Carolina to Poland.

Thus, after completion of all supply, Poland will be able to form two battalions of 58 tanks each. American armored vehicles will be adopted by the 18th Mechanized Division, which, thanks to the new Abrams ", according to the former Minister of Defense of Mariusz Blaschak, will become one of the strongest tactical compounds not only in Poland but also in Europe.

The material also emphasizes that the purchase of M1A1 tanks was made possible by the fact that these machines were removed from the US Marine Corps and stored in warehouses. Before sending to Poland, the tanks were adapted to the Polish army requirements, repaired, and the armor was partially replaced. Despite the fact that M1a1 is the oldest version of Abrams, it has undergone many modernization.

The Firepower Enhancement Programme covers the improvement of thermal imaging, fire control system, navigation module, laser rangefinders and other components. The tanks are equipped with a 120 mm M256 Smooth -barrel gun, and as a power plant is a gas turbine Honeywell Agt1500, which allows to use different types of fuel.
