Putin allowed "unfriendly" countries to pay for gas debts in foreign currency
It is reported that debt repayment does not give grounds for restoring the supply of Russian gas to buyers who do not meet other requirements of Putin's decree. This is stated in amendments published on the official Internet portal of the legal information of the Russian Federation. The material states that Putin shocked the European gas market at the end of March, signing a decree on a full transition to ruble payments for Russian pipeline gas.
It is reported that the Russian gas giant Gazprom has suspended gas supply to clients in Poland, Bulgaria, Finland, the Netherlands and Denmark, as well as the supply to Germany under contract with "Shell Energy Europe" after the company refused to execute the Decree. On the other hand, according to the material, other European companies have opened special accounts in rubles and foreign currency at Gazprombank JSC, authorized to make natural gas payments.
Earlier, Focus wrote that the Russian ruble has fallen to an eight -month minimum. The Russian currency ranged below 72 per dollar, declining 18% since the beginning of December and reaching the weakest level since late April. We will also remind that the price of gas in Europe for the first time with an invasion of Ukraine has decreased to a minimum. Two days before the start of a full-scale war, on February 22, gas on TTF was traded at 79.
