From stealth to anti-ship missiles: US Navy want to integrate on F-35 new weapons
The changes need not only the F-35 itself, but also rockets for starting from the new platform. The AGM-158 Jassm missile is called critical weapons. This will be a combination of a inconspicuous fighter with a inconspicuous missile, which should be able to hit the enemy's whole at long distances. The US Air Force has purchased an increased jasm-ER rocket with a range of at least 900 km, but the Navy focuses on the basic version with a range of 500 km. Lrasm is a Jassm -based rocket.
It was created to defeat marine goals, including surface warships. In this case, the naval forces choose a version of the Lrasm-ER, which will be able to affect both marine and land goals. The F-35 currently does not have a specialized anti-ship missile, at least until it has integrated Norwegian JSM. Previously known AGM-114 hellfire rocket has never integrated into F-35 fighter. This rocket has never been put in such a high -speed platform.
There is a version of AGM-114L that will allow the rocket using the advanced set of F-35 sensors. The fighter will be able to affect any goals with Hellfire very quickly and in all weather conditions. It is also possible that the US Navy integrate the Helfire variant with increased flight range, as in the UAV MQ-9 Reaper. Under optimal conditions, the range can reach 33 km instead of 8-10 km in the base configuration. Jagm is a rocket that will be used to damage targets up to 15 km.
There is a version with a range of 30 km, but has not yet been adapted to starting from air platforms. The rocket will act on the principle of "shot and forgot", which adds survivability for the fighter. Both tanks, boats or small armored vehicles can be goals. The US Navy statement was the first confirmation of the integration of the latest missile into the 5th generation.
