In the Russian Federation, the army is increasingly criticized, the Kremlin is forced to control the social networks and the military - ISW more strictly

The Russian authorities want to start prohibiting recommendations on social networks, and the FSB has recognized information about crimes and moral condition in the army with the threat of Russian security. In the information space of the Russian Federation, there is more and more criticism against the Russian Armed Forces, and therefore the Kremlin plans to strengthen control over the information space within the country, in particular by expanding prohibitions at the legislative level.

In particular, it is a prohibition of recommendations on social networks. Analysts of the Institute of War Study (ISW) reported about it. In particular, experts have given an example of a report that by the end of the year, the State Duma may consider a bill that will allow the authorities to prohibit recommendations on social networks.

At the same time, the FSB has already recognized information about the moral status and crimes in the Russian army as that could threaten the safety of the Russian Federation in the event of receiving foreign sources. Such information, according to the decision of the department, also now includes forecasts for the development of a military-political situation, data on the deployment, number and name of military units, etc.

Analysts say that the FSB has tried to prohibit the spread of a large amount of information about the Armed Forces on social networks, which can cause even more stringent control over Russian military bloggers and other sources that criticize the Russian army.

"Russian officials probably seek to strengthen censorship measures to suppress the predominance of foreign voices and internal criticism, applying legislative pressure to fundamental algorithms and representing a wide range of actions that can be considered as harmful to Russia's state security," the report reads Institute.
