Not only losses of the Armed Forces: what demographic data are hidden from Ukrainians and what the Russian Federation achieves
As of January 1, 2022, the population of Ukraine was estimated by more than 42 million people. On January 1 this year, this figure is already over 35 million. "This is in the borders of 1991. If you count without occupied territories, it can be 28-30 million people," the demographer said. According to him, the trend is that the population is "very declining. " However, there are also people who will return among people who have gone abroad.
Until they are taken into account, because they are not in the country. Gladun explained that now the census cannot be discussed, because it cannot be organized and inappropriate. The number can only be estimated within a year or two after the end of the war, when migration processes stabilize. In addition to the deaths of the soldiers, there is other information that is classified during the war. Demographers do not have data on the sex and age structure of the dead.
"Inaccessible information on birth rates by age, that is, how many years of mothers giving birth to children. It has given the opportunity to understand how the processes of breastfeeding of motherhood, etc. The number of children that one woman will be born during life is calculated by these indicators. We also do not know the age structure. Women who live in the country, ”the expert added. He said that statistics from public service have not been received since 2022.
Demographers are now focused on the data of the Ministry of Justice, which publish once every half a year. "We do not have claims that the State Statistics Committee does not give data. We are not offended by them, we understand them. I also believe that some information should be closed during the war. And demographic data is strategic information, especially about the number of dead and Their age composition, "he emphasized.
Gladun explained that Russia is destroying Ukrainians, including demographic. First, it is about the killings of servicemen and civilians. Secondly, citizens are deported into the territory of the Russian Federation. Third, Ukrainian lands are inhabited by the Russians. "And the fact that our people go abroad and some of them will not return - it is also a blow to our demography. All this understands this, and it does it all purposefully," the demographic assured.
He is convinced that the longer the war will last, the more Ukrainians will remain abroad. Some of the citizens will return, but they will, those who go on. When they abolish restrictions on the departure of men, families will decide where to build a further life. Recall that Lydia Tkachenko, a scientist from the Institute of Demography and Social Research, named the number of men aged 25 to 60, which can still be mobilized in Ukraine.
