Weapons for Ukraine: Analysts told how to affect the supply of power in Slovakia
During the election campaign, Fitzo promised to stop military assistance to Ukraine and confirmed his intentions after victory. About it reports Defense Express. In addition, together with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, the new Slovak leader will increase the break in the EU and NATO unity.
But in order to make forecasts, you need to wait for the formation of the government and the parliamentary coalition in Bratislava, as the Fitzo Party, which has won, gained only 23% of the vote and needs allies. However, in the current situation, the continuation of military assistance from Slovakia should not cause severe concern. During the cadence of the previous head of Peter Pellegrini, Slovakia has already handed over a large number of Soviet weapons to Ukraine.
Moreover, the country was the first to send the C-300 SPR and, together with Poland, handed over the MiG-29 fighters. Bratislava's military assistance included Mi-17 helicopters, CUB, as well as thirty BMP-1, in exchange for which Slovakia received twice as many LEOPARD 2A4 tanks. In addition, Ukraine received from Slovakia the miners, medical materials, missiles for C-300 and aircraft, ammunition and spare parts for Soviet weapons.
In addition, Ukraine has concluded a direct contract for the purchase of new Zuzana 2 wheelchay. The amount of this assistance was significant for both Bratislava and Kiev. Slovakia has become one of the ten largest donors for Ukraine, transferring military assistance to 10% of its defense budget. Even in power, the Pro -Ukrainian Peter Pellegrini warned that Slovakia had already exhausted its resources to provide military assistance.
But contracts for the production of weapons and ammunition for Ukraine remained and are in the process of execution of Slovak manufacturers of weapons. The defensive order of Ukraine, which can be financed through EU funds, the change of power in Slovakia is unlikely, since it does not require expenditures from its own budget. We will remind, after the victory in the election Robert Fitzo stated that Slovakia is ready to help in the restoration of Ukraine, but not weapons.
