The capital of the Russian Federation can be without light: experts have confirmed the technical possibility of shutdown

To spread: President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky warned that in response to systematic strikes of Russia on Ukrainian energy, the capital of the Russian Federation may also be under threat of large -scale shutdowns of power supply. Experts evaluate such a scenario as technically feasible, because the history and weaknesses of the Moscow power grid confirm it.

According to Telegraph, Zelensky's statement was against the backdrop of Russia's regular attacks on Ukrainian infrastructure, which lasts from the fall of 2022, as well as in the context of discussions in the world on the use of long -range weapons on the strategic objects of the enemy.

The publication reminds that one of the most serious energy collaps in Moscow took place on May 25, 2005: the failure of transformers at the Chagino substation # 510 provoked a cascade accident that left millions of residents of the capital and surrounding areas without light. Then the subway trains and escalators stopped, the hospitals worked in limited mode, mobile communications and the Internet partially ceased to function. It was only more than a day to restore energy.

The losses were estimated from 35 million to more than $ 280 million, and the causes were outdated equipment, lack of reserves and poor coordination between energy companies. Today, the capital's energy region formally provides its needs with its own capacity: about 80% of energy comes from large thermal power plants (TPP -22, Kashirskaya GRES, Shatra TPP), the rest - from the Kalinin, Smolensk, Kursk and Voronezh NPPs.

However, the delivery of electricity to consumers requires an extensive network of lines, transformers and substations, among which the Moscow energy ring with ten substations of 500 kV is key importance, including "Chagino", "Pakhra", "Noginsk", "Ochakovo" and others. The failure of even one such node can start a cascade of interruptions throughout the city. Ukrainian energy expert Mikhail Gonchar explains: "Real blackberries are not just off light.

It is a complete collapse of the power system for a long time when it loses its ability to function. Moscow is not formally energy deficiency formally, but the capital region as a whole has weaknesses due to the dependencies between the city. Particularly difficult is the protection of the capital: the multilayered air defense system includes C -400/C -500, "shell", "Thor" and local means of detection of drones.

Aviation analyst Konstantin Krivolap explains that for a successful impact, you first need to "blind" or overload these systems, and then cause massive lesions with drone attacks, creating "holes" in defense, as was happening in the occupied territories, in particular in the Crimea. Ukrainian technologies for such operations are constantly developing.

According to Air Expert Valery Romanenko, there are drones with a range of more than 1 100 km (FP -1), as well as drones "Flamingo", "February", "Beaver" that can affect the critical objects of the power grid. At the same time, a comprehensive, well -coordinated operation with a large number of drones and parallel to neutralization of radars and an air defense of the enemy is required to achieve the real effect.

According to the publication, historical experience shows that even a complex and large power system is vulnerable if it fails. It is for this reason that experts believe that the large -scale Blackut Moscow is technically possible, but serious preparation, synchronous action and accurate damage to critical infrastructure units are required.
