From the sound was the concrete melted? Engineers dispelled the main myth about NASA Saturn-5 rocket
Video of the day, however, 203 dB is clearly not enough to melt concrete, scientists believe. The study was conducted on the eve of the next major launch of NASA-SLS missiles, which will launch the Orion ship as part of Artemis-1 mission. It is assumed that the powerful SLS will draw even more sound than Saturn-5. But NASA is ready for it. The agency has developed a sound suppression system that will release 2 million liters of water on the platform before starting the main rocket engine.
This measure will reduce the noise level issued by starting up to 142 dB. At the same time, noise levels will be measured during startup to adjust the calculations and make forecasts for future launches. The Mission of Artemis-1 will be launched on August 29. It will be test and will be in robotic mode. And already in 2025, a crew is planned on board as part of the Artemis-2 mission. Previously, it was planned to send people for a month by 2024.
