Estonia reduces a 100 km defensive line and considers the border blocking from the Russian Federation - the media

To spread: Estonia unfolds a large -scale fortification on the border with Russia - in the coming years, tens of kilometers of anti -tank moats, hundreds of bins and consider the possibility of complete closure of the border here will be reduced here. According to ERR, construction works have already started. The first half a kilometer ditch was laid in the village of Vinski, not far from Mermayae in the parish.

In the future, the fortifications are planned to be erected inside the fence, complementing them with "dragon teeth" and barbed wire. Representative of the General Staff of Estonia forces, Lieutenant Colonel Ainar Afanasyev explained that in the northeast the country is already natural barriers to the Narva River and Lake Pepeus, while the southeast requires additional engineering solutions.

It is here that by the end of 2027 they plan to equip more than 40 kilometers of anti -tank ditches and about 600 bins, which will be placed directly on the ground or stored near them. In general, the defensive strip will extend for 100 kilometers along the border and will have up to 40 kilometers deep into the territory.

According to the head of the project of the Center for Defense Investment (RKIK), Armina Siilivska, this year it is planned to create two strongholds - in the northeast and southeast of Estonia. Each of them will consist of several dozen bins, and nearby storage warehouses, which are already transported from previous bases closer to future construction sites. The implementation of the Baltic Defense Line officially started from these works.

In the first stage, by 2025, it is planned to build about 4 kilometers of anti -tank ditches, 28 bins and 10 warehouses. All measures are carried out in the cooperation of the Defense and RKIK forces. Although the Ministry of Defense emphasizes that there is no direct military threat now, Tallinn emphasizes the importance of early readiness.

Much of the construction occurs in wooded terrain, where ditches will serve not only as an obstacle to equipment, but also as an element of additional supervision. The overall goal of the project is to restrain the possible invasion, to win the time to answer and take into account the lessons learned during the war of Russia against Ukraine.
