Six fighters per kilometer: why do the Armed Forces control the front line and how many more infantrymen they need
Now the situation has changed: throughout the 700-mile line of the front during the large-scale war of Russia against Ukraine, the role of infantry is reduced to the target for drones. This conclusion was reached by analysts of Rob Lee and Michael Coffman after a recent trip to Ukraine. Lee and Coffman were the guests of the War on the Rocks. The Pro -Ukrainian group of Conflict Intelligence Team is useful to summarize analysts and suggested some useful context.
According to Lee and Coffman, in some sectors per kilometer of the front lines accounts for six Ukrainian infantrymen. Usually a full battalion with several hundred soldiers holds the sector wide. The "empty" front line is a result of a fierce lack of infantry in the Ukrainian Armed Forces, which have about one million people. In total, 130 land crews of the Armed Forces lacks approximately 100,000 trained infantrymen. It will not stretch that Ukraine has twice less infantry as it needs.
