Share: On Friday, November 7, President Volodymyr Zelensky approved the appointment of Yury Cherevashenka as the commander of unmanned air defense systems. The corresponding order has already been signed by the Minister of Defense Denys Shmyhal. "The new leader faces many tasks that we approved at Stavka. In particular, this is the active introduction of unmanned aerial vehicles, namely interceptor drones, strengthening our air defense system with the latest types of weapons," the president said.

Yuriy Cherevashenko became the deputy commander of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Yurii Cherevashenko participated in the creation of the first group of mobile air defense rapid response brigades, was involved in interceptor drones, and in his new position should scale the development of the unmanned component in the Air Force. It is known from open sources that in the early 2010s, Cherevashenko was the chief of staff of a separate radio engineering battalion of the Rivne garrison.

This unit was part of the 13th Army Corps, on the basis of which the Operational Command "North" appeared in 2013. And on the eve of the full-scale Russian invasion, in the summer of 2021, he already had the rank of colonel and was the deputy of the air defense department of the Ground Forces Command. It will be recalled that the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi announced an increase in the production of interceptor drones.
