Rurik occupiers: Why Prince Igor and Princess Olga are not Ukrainian heroes at all

Historian and journalist Denis Mandyuk does not strongly understand what Ukrainians to love Princess Olga. He dismantles the famous Rurik incident with the Drevlyans in detail - and finds a typical occupier syndrome in the foreign land in the behavior of the Varangians.

One of the moments of Ukrainian history that sincerely embarrass me is: what joy everyone is so fond of Princess Olga and sympathize with her husband Igor? One of my girlfriend has written literally: "Why is Princess Olga not in Ukrainian hryvnias so far? She gave it so well to dragged the Drevlyans!" Okay, let's try to understand objectively. There were Drevlyans, the East Slavic tribe, the ancestors of present Ukrainians. Perhaps not the most developed people, but definitely not missing.

They lived themselves, grew vegetables, kept cattle, hunted, worshiped Perun. They had a little, but they did not move the stranger. And here comes to them Varang Ingvar (Igor is baptized later by the chroniclers) with his gang. "Pay tribute, Drevlyans!" Barja shouts. "Because I cut. " The Drevlyans did not want to fit into the extra twice: they dropped, who could - fur, skins, honey - and shared. As if he calmed down, he left. It is a few days - Ingvar again under the gate.

- Pay tribute, Drevlyans! - he shouts. - The same was paid, - they are surprised. - Pay more! - Ingvar does not persuade. - Little! I cut! Here the Drevlyans broke. Although they are not conflicted, they did not suffer. They grabbed the low, tied to two pines and scattered. Well, that every half is tribute. Humor was like that. Well, Helga (then called Olga), Ingvar's wife, whether it is a Bulgarian, or the same vagis, began to avenge.

Initially, she called the Drevlyansky prince in the bath and fry it alive there. Then she promised the Drevlyans to the peaceful friend, and she burned the whole city. In short, she did the most insidious and cruel, quite in the style of modern p*dreams. Also, the son brought up the same one who distributed to all from Kiev to Constantinople. And who in this story is a martyr hero and who is an aggressor? I would, in principle, review our perception of the princely period.

Because in fact, it is the history of Rurik invaders (descendants of Varangia Rorik) who have caught up with us and set out to establish their orders. One of their branches, Volyn-Halytska, was successfully self-dreamed in the fourteenth century. The other, Vladimir-Suzdal, later Moscow, lasted a little longer and still had time to produce the evil of our land. Although management approaches and conflict resolution methods both in both were approximately the same.
