France develops new ballistic missiles: when the project is sold "in iron" (photo)
According to experts, there are two types of missiles: one -stage - with a range up to 1000 km, and a larger two -stage - with a range up to 2500 km. The development of ballistic missiles is within the competence of the Arianegroup, which is also responsible for the production of ballistic missiles of the M51 maritime base, the main component of the nuclear triad of France.
At the same time, the MBDA conglomerate works on a LCM long -range winged wing, which is developed on the basis of the MDCN in the ground. Hartpunkt observers say that France can bring ballistic missiles to practical implementation only if cooperative with other European countries such as Germany or the United Kingdom. However, such initiatives have already encountered difficulties, as it happened within the FCAS program to create a new European fighter.
It has also been noted that the missile models are different from previous French developments. For example, the Hades Tactical and Tactical Missile Complex had only up to 500 km. Thus, the development of a rocket per 1000 km will be a significant step forward. However, the range of 2500 km for the second rocket raises questions, given that the outdated French missiles S3 had a range of up to 3700 km and S2 - up to 3000 km.
The question remains whether these projects will become a full part of the future arsenal of France, or will remain exhibition layouts. After all, they can significantly affect the balance of long -range missile systems in Europe. Recall that the nuclear arsenal of France consists of 290 existing nuclear warheads ready for deployment using 98 strategic delivery systems. But for the production of new warheads, a shortage of tritium is required.
