To "reassure farmers": the EU will impose a duty on grain from Russia and Belarus - FT

The amount of duty, which is planned to introduce the European Commission in the coming days, is 95 euros per ton of grain. There will also be tariffs of 50% of oilseed seeds and products. The European Union is preparing to impose grain import duties from the Russian Federation and Belarus to "reassure farmers" and some member countries. This was reported by Financial Times with reference to persons familiar with these plans.

However, according to persons familiar with the relevant plans, it is expected to introduce a duty of 95 euros per ton of grain from Russia and Belarus in the coming days. "This would lead to a rise in prices by at least 50%, destroying demand.

50 percent duties will also be set for oilseed seeds and products obtained from them," the material reads. The publication reminded that in February Latvia introduced a unilateral ban on imports of many foods from Russia and Belarus and announced strict checks of goods. Earlier, the Polish Polish and EU Commissioner on Agriculture Janusz Wojciechowski stated that the European Union should respond "when Russia uses food as weapons.
